Project Hope

Project HOPE is an initiative of the SFB (Sea Point, Fresnaye & Bantry Bay) Residents & Ratepayers Association in collaboration with the NPO PlaySport4Life (PS4L) (Community and Youth Development through Sport). The objective of Project HOPE is to address the needs of homeless persons in Sea Point, Fresnaye & Bantry Bay

Project HOPE was recently identified by the PEP (Public Employment Programme) of National Government through Khulisa Social Solutions as a beneficiary to channel tax payers money in a positive direction, turning the challenges of homelessness into opportunities through the PEP initiative. PEPs offer employment opportunities, income security,

Work experience and skills acquired through PEPs can improve a persons’ employability, while the generated income can increase consumption of goods and services which in turn has a direct positive impact on communities and local enterprises.

The street cleaning and beach conservation project is currently running successfully at the beaches in Three Anchor Bay, Sea Point and Bantry Bay as well as the residential neighbourhoods of Sea Point, Fresnaye & Bantry Bay by Community Care Ambassadors (CCA’s) and Supervisors. The CCA’s are all former homeless persons who have been carefully screened and vetted by PS4L staff and social team and have committed to change their lives, and willing to be reintegrated into their communities.

Added initiatives:

  • Stormwater drains maintenance.
  • Park upgrades and maintenance.
  • Reporting of damages to city infrastructure
  • Collaborating with the City sanitation and cleaning teams

The PEP is a short term program to grow and support Project HOPE, successfully launched and driven by the Sea Point, Fresnaye & Bantry Bay Ratepayers & Residents Association in partnership with PlaySport4Life until June 2023.
