The Western Cape provincial government has invited interested and affected parties to register for the public engagement process on the planned “redevelopment” of the former Tafelberg school property situated at 353 Main Road, Sea Point.
The Western Cape Department of Infrastructure has announced that it had appointed a service provider to start with site enablement investigations and assessments, a process that is anticipated to take up to 2 years.
The old school occupies a large site in the heart of Sea Point, along the Main Road, and done right, the redevelopment offers a unique opportunity to add tangible value to the community and social fabric of the area. Rarely are the residents of Sea Point invited to participate in processes that serve to fundamentally shape the area in which they live.
The invitation by the Western Cape provincial government to residents and ratepayers to participate and to contribute their views and ideas on the future of this iconic building and site is therefore most welcomed.
As the representatives of the ratepayers of the area we are committed to play a positive and constructive role in the process of developing a vision and plan for the site.
We encourage residents, ratepayers, and all members of the community to take advantage of the public participation process to actively contribute their ideas on how best to leverage this unique community development opportunity to benefit the entire community of Sea Point and Cape Town.
